Eagle and Condor staves, community and runners – reunion in Colombia

One year ago, I set out to run for a week in Northern California with the Peace and Dignity Journeys. Five months later I was in Colombia, closing out the 8th ceremonial run across the western hemisphere since 1992. The staffs and prayers carried bring together people across continents through shared purpose: to pray for peace; to honor the  teachings of our elders; to celebrate our love for mother earth; to give thanks for the breath of life; to use our voices to uplift one another; to walk with and treat others with dignity.

Visiting island communities in Panama. A hydroelectric dam changed the eco system here- biodiversity in the waters plummeted as did food source and livelihood for the local people.

I am continually grateful for the privilege to have been a part of that run. To meet the people and feel the places, to hear the stories, languages and rhythms, to play with kids and walk slow with abuelas..to laugh and to cry with people from many places as we met in ceremony to pray for the land and the waters, for the health and safety of our communities.

Thanks again and forever to all who contributed funds and words of support, supplies, prayers and help grounding. I couldn’t have done it without you! Integration of all that I experienced in that time has been ongoing; and while I’ve been back in clinic for a few months now, I apparently neglected to mention that fact here! A client asked if I was going to be away after reading my post from last year! (so grateful they pointed that out!)

I am in fact home, and eager to receive and work with you! ❤

Talking circles helped us support one another along the way.

During that run and in the time since, I’ve been thinking about values, about right-relationship with nature and in community. And well, a lot of change – nationally, internally, politically, spiritually, and the increasing epidemic of stress and overwhelm, has actually put me right back at the core of why I do what I do-  I want us to remember our  inherent value as human beings. I believe that wellness care and access to help when feeling unwell- physically or emotionally, is a basic right. I want to help folks feel held in these times. I want us to learn together to listen to the messages in our discomforts-  that teach us how to heal, show us how we are already healing and how to reconnect to life’s gifts of joy and pleasure. I want to guide people into the places of tension or pain to find what is stuck there,  let it be witnessed and allow it to move- no longer blocking  vital flows of energy. I want to offer, want us all to offer dignity to each other and to ourselves. I believe in all bodies feeling safe and respected when seeking healthcare.  My practice is open to folks across spectra of race, belief, and gender expression. May Queer folks and Trans kin, BIPOC folks and sin papeles familia feel welcome here.

I am trying to swim along with everyone in the currents of news and inflation and while I’ve resisted, an adjustment to my rates has to happen. I have actually wanted to change things for awhile and have decided that a rate set for time vs type of offering feels more aligned. An imagined sliding scale was too vast to be useful – so instead I will remain open to barters and reduced rates for those in need, while accepting donations/’tips’ from folks who have the resources to put toward probono and discounted sessions for others. I have basically always worked this way but am sharing it here so we can all be intentional about it together. I value the work/skill/time that goes into learning, teaching, farming, cooking and crafting. Dollars are useful tools…but are not equitably exchanged in our world for all types of labour.  I trust that those that can, will help me in supporting those that need a financial helping hand. Starting in August I will initiate an hourly rate of $2/min regardless of modality.

There are lots of things shifting in our world…Systems of support for many are being put at risk. Let’s take care of each other and be the change we want to see. Let’s be in community and share joy, grief, care, resilience, laughter, healing.  There are many ways to resist the sickness of greed and lack. We can be well, we can be abundant ❤
